The meaning of Live by the Sword, Die by the Sword

There is malevolence in this world, and there is unconsciousness and stupidity (largely contained in ideology), which can be worse, and it isn’t clear to me that doing bad things to bad people, even if for selfish or self-serving reasons, is necessarily wrong; or that, even if it were, I would abstain from doing it.

“Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.” Matthew 26, 26:52

Jesus was crucified. The phrase, “for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword”, is a warning, but not clearly an opprobrium. Jesus doesn’t threaten them with hell, just death. They die anyway. Maybe sometimes someone just has to pickup the sword?

“A coward dies a thousand deaths, a soldier dies but once”. That quote isn’t Jesus, it’s Tupac. 😛 (“People don’t have ideas, ideas have people” —Carl Jung)

I watched this documentary about the Waco Texas Massacre. The government was supposedly protecting Americans from guns. By killing Americans with guns, with guns.
